13 (Explosive) MLM Tips & Strategies To Achieve Success

If you’ve had enough of all the beginners stuff (“be genuine,” “set goals”), then you’ll really enjoy this post.

I’ve decided to pull the curtains back and reveal some of my favorite network marketing tips, strategies, and secrets.

Some are untapped.

Some are ninja style tricks.

Some are super actionable.

You can use these right now and be well on your way to achieving network marketing success.

Let’s dive in!

1. Build A Downline and Customer Base With This Untapped Business Profile

Successful MLM companies generate thousands of buyer keywords.

These are people who are actively looking to buy the products or join the business.

I come across it all the time.

For example:

There are 4,400 people (per month) that type “Amway Distributor” into Google:

amway distributor traffic volume

Some people use the phrase “Amway IBO” (590 monthly searchers) or variations:

amway ibo keywordsGood chance they’re looking for a distributor to buy the products.

Some could be looking for a sponsor to join.

There’s also probably a few Distributors in the mix and this is just their route to logging into their account.

But take a look at this:

amway distributor keywords

“amway distributor near me” – Sounds like people looking for a distributor to help them out.

“amway products online shopping” – Sounds like Amway Customers that want to shop the products online.

Check out Avon:

avon buyer keywordsYou don’t get much of a better prospect than someone searching “how to become avon rep.”

You can set your business up in a way so that these people can find you and reach out to you.

It then becomes a matter of helping them out with their product needs or the business opportunity.

How?

Here’s the secret.

Set up a Google Business Profile:

google business profile map

The shot above shows only a handful of doTERRA Advocate listings in the United States.

That’s not a lot considering how big this company is.

In fact:

There are 246,000 people per month in America that search “doterra” in google:

doterra keyword overviewAnd check this out:

The company “Herbalife” gets 14,800 monthly searchers in Australia:

herbalife keyword overview

The results in Google?

Not surprisingly, the Australia & New Zealand Herbalife website is ranking in the #1 spot.

The #2 spot is a “people also ask” section.

After that?

Herbalife Distributors:

herbalife google maps

Pretty useful, right?

I stumbled upon Geoff and Margaret who have done an excellent job with their profile:

  • Professional about section
  • Useful overview details (phone number, hours, website, etc)
  • Plenty of photos

They’ve also racked up lots of 5 star reviews from their customers and referrals:

herbalife gbp reviews

Nicely done!

Setting up and managing a Google Business Profile is free.

Now, this is a great start but you can go further with this local marketing strategy.

Which brings us to my next tip…

2. Create A LinkedIn Distributor Profile

LinkedIn is a social networking site for business owners that has 875 million users around the world.

A good LinkedIn profile can show up on Google for these buyer keywords.

In fact:

It may even perform better than a Google Business Profile.

For example:

With some search queries, I’ve noticed that Google doesn’t show any business listings.

Maybe there aren’t any distributors listed, or maybe there aren’t enough listings to make it worth showing.

It also depends on the search query and location.

Whatever the case, I’ve noticed plenty of LinkedIn Distributor profiles showing up on Google:

network marketing profiles linkedin

Notice the keywords in these titles and descriptions?

  • Avon Consultant
  • Isagenix Associate
  • doTERRA Wellness Advocate
  • Amway Australia

The better profile you build, the more authoritative it becomes…

This leads to better rankings on Google along with customers and business owners checking you out.

There’s one more major business page…

3. Create A Facebook Distributor Page

Facebook is the 3rd most visited site in the world (behind Google and YouTube).

There are lots of successful network marketers who have built their entire MLM business using just their Facebook profile.

When it comes to this strategy, I’ve noticed plenty Distributor pages showing up on Google.

For example:

A search for “It Works distributor” and I come across this page ranking at the #3 spot:

it works facebook network marketer

A good Facebook page can not only rank well in Google but should also do well with getting clicks.

The Facebook URL alone will have people clicking and you’ve also got the “star” rating and “likes” count that draws attention.

Building a Facebook page is pretty much the same drill as a GBP and LinkedIn profile.

  • Post engaging content
  • Keep it active
  • Get a few star ratings
  • Rack up those likes and followers

This next tip will give these big three profiles an extra boost…

4. Get Listed On Business Directories and Citation Sites

These sites are a Yellow Pages deal. You just add your business name, phone, and location.

These directories can help build trust and brand awareness.

When Google sees your business elsewhere around the web it kinda tells them that you’re a legit business.

These listings can also show up on Google.

For example:

A search for “amway distributor near me” (390 monthly searches in Australia) and I find a listing on TrueLocal (Australian directory) ranking at the #3 spot:

amway distributor directory listing

Not bad!

Now, there are lots of directories out there, you don’t need to sign up to all of them.

To kick things off, I’d just go for a few of the top directories, especially those that are based in your country.

Let’s look into creating some content…

5. The “Company + Country” Post

I’ve had great success with this type of post.

In fact:

When I was a beginner, I was recruiting 1-2 people per week into my MLM business from this one blog post.

It was a hidden gem.

What is the “Company + Country” post?

It’s an overview of your company along with answers to frequently asked questions.

Here’s the catch:

You’re creating a post that’s only targeting those who are based in your country.

Title examples:

  • Isagenix UK: The Ultimate Review
  • Isagenix UK: Top 15 Frequently Asked Questions
  • Isagenix UK: Complete Review and Your Questions Answered!

Here’s why I like this type of post:

1.) If you’re going for the local marketing strategy (tips above), this type of post will tie in perfectly.

2.) A standard company review (excluding your country as a keyword) can be a goldmine, but you may be looking at too much competition…

You’ve got high-authority review sites along with the anti-MLM review bloggers competing for that real estate.

The “company + country” post may have less competition and good search volume.

Here’s how to get going.

I’ve shown you some title ideas, let’s look into rounding up some headlines to write about.

A simple Google search should do the trick.

For example:

A search for “doTERRA Australia” and Google presents us with a “People also ask” section:

doterra australia faq

Scrolling down to the bottom of the page and Google also presents us with a “Related Searches” section:

doterra australia related searches

As you can see, the people searching these phrases are the types of prospects you want to talk to.

I’d much rather attract people searching “How much does it cost to join doTERRA Australia?”.

As appose to having to deal with people searching “doTERRA scam,” “pyramid scheme” and the likes.

Another great way to find questions and content ideas is to use Answer The Public:

answer the public

You should now have a good framework in place.

It’s a great start!

It’s now a matter of answering those questions and putting together a unique, high-quality post:

If you’re keen to get your own site going, then check out this list of MLM blogs for ideas and inspiration.

Top 100 MLM Blogs and Websites You Must Check Out:

mlm blogs

Even without your own site, there are other options:

LinkedIn Pulse – Is a content publishing platform where you can create content just like a blog.

Articles on LinkedIn can show up high on Google as the site has a high domain authority (99 out of 100).

Note: Not every article is indexed by Google. Here’s what JC Chouinard found with his LinkedIn SEO case study:

In the end, to get you LinkedIn Pulse Article indexed you need to:

  • Get at least 10 likes very quickly (1-2 days). It seemed like the number of interactions had an impact on the indexation of Pulse articles.
  • Get at least a thousand followers to hope getting indexed.
  • Get at least one share of your post.
  • Make sure that your content is unique and high-quality.

Medium.com – Is a free article publishing platform that also has a high domain authority. I’ve come across plenty of Medium posts showing up high on Google.

YouTube Videos – The content doesn’t have to be in written form. You could create a video.

Guest Post – You could find blogs within your niche (or network marketing blogs) that will publish your content.

6. Treat Your Customers and Referrals Like Kings / Queens

A good sales funnel strategy is to “up-the-ante” of value to these three types of people…

So it goes like this:

  1. Visitors – Give them good stuff
  2. Leads – Give them better stuff (Wow factor)
  3. Customers / Downline – Treat them like Kings / Queens (Loyalty factor)

Most network marketers put all their focus into getting more traffic, more leads, trying to sponsor more people.

I did too.

And I found myself in a situation where just about everyone that I had sponsored was dropping out (usually after about 3 months).

I eventually failed as the business wasn’t sustainable. πŸ™

The experience made me realize a couple things:

Thing #1) It’s a big advantage being apart of company that has good products and an upline / team with a good system in place.

Thing #2) The customer value and loyalty is a big deal.

I’ve come across businesses that go hard out when it comes to trying to keep their customers in for the long haul.

For example:

The team at OptinMonster sell a lead generation software that I purchased for the site.

I couldn’t believe what followed…

They wanted to create a campaign for us. Basically offering to do work for us for free:

optinmonster email

They responded to my support ticket within an hour…(although I do have the pro plan which gives us priority)

They then wanted to send us a free shirt:

customer support email tshirt

Impressive!

This is a tool that I need for the site. It wasn’t expensive at all, yet here I am being treated like a king.

Check out the shirt:

optinmonster tshirt

Happy days! πŸ™‚

Now, every business is different. Not all of us can afford to be hiring staff and giving away shirts.

But there are plenty of other things you can do.

Here’s a few ideas:

  • Like, share, and comment on their posts
  • Feature them within your content
  • Give them first access to your content
  • Give them free “bonus” training
  • Send them a testimonial
  • Host Webinars with them
  • Work with them on case studies
  • Free coaching sessions
  • Consultations

Also, a cheaper option than the shirts idea is to mail them personalized cards (birthday, Christmas time, or whenever)

There’s actually an MLM company called SendOutCards that provides this service.

Now that you have some ideas flowing, I’ll show how to get on the right track…

7. The 3-Step Process To Managing Your Customers & Downline

Here are the steps:

  1. Create a dedicated “how to work with me” page
  2. Collect their Info (preferably using a form)
  3. Add and manage that info using a CRM (customer relationship manager)

You could easily ask and collect their info within your “welcome” email as soon as they sign up…

But creating a dedicated page that explains what the deal is may be the way to go.

For example:

I have a “welcome” page created on this site (still a work in progress) that explains a lot of things.

I don’t have any shirts to give, but I did purchase the full-license rights to some really good training courses. This allows us to sell them or give them away.

So to “up-the-ante” of value, I unlock some of these courses for free within my training site:

3-Step Top Earner Framework Course

I go on to explain how they can be featured on the Network Marketing Land blog, the requirements, and how to go about it:

  • Guest posting
  • Testimonials
  • Sponsored reviews
  • Case studies

I also go on to explain how I can help promote their business:

  • Like, share, and comment on their posts
  • Feature their results (as examples) within my content
  • Include them in “top list” posts

To get on top these things, I need to know more about their business and where their online properties are.

So I have a form that collects their info:

mlm referral form

Now, as I mentioned, every business is different…

It comes down to thinking of ways you can help, the value you can give, getting the info you need, and making it happen.

The next step is to manage their info using a CRM (customer relationship manager).

This tool keeps everyone’s info in an organized, easy-to-manage place. There are so many things you can do with a CRM:

CRM dashboard

And with that…

You’ll be well on your way to improving the customer value and loyalty.

8. The Ultimate Word-Of-Mouth Marketing Method

A great way to get the word out about you and your products is to send them to Influencers to review.

There are plenty of Influencers looking to share new products with their fans and followers.

This is known as sponsored reviews.

I’ll explain:

A while ago I stumbled upon In A Pikle who have gone hard out with this strategy.

They’ve had several Influencers on YouTube review their product:

Quick Pick Review YouTube

They’ve also gone with bloggers:

Momma Review In A Pikle

And I have no doubt they’ve gone with Influencers on all the big social media platforms:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • Snapchat

The results of these reviews got some great comments along with people wanting to buy:

Quick Pick Review YouTube Comments

I was also able to find a network marketer who did this strategy back in 2012.

Her sponsored review is still floating around in Google:

MLM Strategy In Action

That first link is her referral link.

The blogger also gives her a mention and adds a link to her Facebook profile at the end of the post:

MLM Strategy In Action2

Nicely done!

How do you find these Influencers?

Easy.

There are platforms that connect the two:

  • People looking to review products.
  • People looking to get their products reviewed.
Influencer marketplace

Many will review your products providing that you send it to them for free, but those with large audiences will come with a price.

9. The NO Selling Approach

This approach is the way to go for building an audience fast, especially if you’re starting from scratch.

You simply don’t pitch or sell anything (or at least take it easy on it).

Put your products and opportunity on “hold” – Settle in and play the long term entrepreneur game.

For example:

To kick things off with Network Marketing Land, I’m taking the NO selling approach to another level.

Majority of my posts will not include many (if any):

  • Affiliate links
  • Referral links
  • Google AdSense
  • Advertising

Just a clean site with good stuff.

With this approach, your content and brand will become more share-worthy, link-worthy, unbiased, and trust-worthy.

Here’s another thing:

You’ll completely stand out from the crowd!

Because everyone is out there pitching their deal, marketing that’s clearly trying to make them sales.

Now, of course, when you get some traction going and a decent sized audience, you can then sell to that audience and monetize your business.

But you must first get that audience going, and the NO selling approach may be the fastest way to go about it.

10. The Secret “WOW!” Factor Welcome Email

Many network marketers make the mistake of pitching and selling as soon as they get a lead.

This can cause those leads to unsubscribe, not open your future emails, or even worse…

Reply with something like this:

Can you please STOP sending me emails!!!

Not good.

When it comes to network marketing success, the key is getting people to know, like, and trust you.

So what’s the secret here?

It’s a question that you ask within your welcome email.

Here it is:

mlm secret emailThere’s no selling here.

I’m asking if they’re struggling with anything.

I’m also trying to get a “Hi” out of them πŸ™‚

Here’s why I like this type of email.

1.) It’s a great first impression. Your leads will be amazed!

2.) You’re not guessing what your audience wants. You have it coming straight from them. This info can guide the direction of your content and business.

Here’s the drawback.

You can’t leave those who have replied hanging. You have to try your best to respond to everyone.

So, if you’re generating lots of leads, your inbox will become inundated and you’ll have your work cut out.

What if you can’t keep up with it all?

No biggie.

You just gotta let them know.

You could say something like this:

As you might imagine, I get quite a few emails coming in every day, and I do my best to reply to as many as I can.

That said, while I may not respond to “every” email, I read every single one of them.

Also, instead of the “what are you struggling with” question, you could simply ask if they need help with anything:

Reply to this email right now and let me now if you need help with anything.

Not only should you not attempt to sell anything on your first email, but your next few emails should continue to “up-the-ante” of value.

Follow the 80/20 rule:

  • 80% of your emails should provide value to your audience
  • 20% of your emails should sell to your audience

11. Build Brand Awareness On Review Sites

This is an easy start to getting your name out there.

You simply do the rounds of having your say on review sites and wherever your company’s presence is at.

You could post a testimonial type review about your company:

USANA review

Perhaps a quick review of the products you use:

NuSkin product review

Here’s a few high-authoritative review sites where your company is probably listed:

You could run a Google search (“Company + Reviews”) and look for sites where you can write a review.

While you’re at it…

You could also post reviews on all the tools and services that you use to build your online business.

Every bit helps in getting your name out there. The more you pop up around the web, the more well-known you become.

You’re also giving a little support to these companies – which is a nice thing to do. πŸ™‚

12. Drive High-Quality Traffic Via Quora

A big step-up from posting reviews is to answer questions posted by your target audience.

Right now, Quora is one of the best Q&A sites going.

It’s a great place to provide value, drive high-quality traffic, and build an audience.

Here’s how to get going:

First, let’s find some questions on Quora via Google. There are several topics that you can look into:

  1. Your niche
  2. Your company
  3. Your competitors
  4. Network marketing, MLM, direct sales

To find questions about network marketing, just copy and paste one of these search strings into Google:

  • site:quora.com “network marketing”
  • site:quora.com “direct sales”
  • site:quora.com mlm
network marketing quora search

You’ve got about 50,000 topics on Quora that include the phrase “network marketing.”

But you can get more specific.

Perhaps you want to find topics in which you have more knowledge about and will have a good answer for.

Perhaps you have a good piece of content that you want to promote.

For example:

Say I wanted to find opportunities to promote this blog post and provide value on the topic.

I’d run searches like this:

  • site:quora.com “network marketing” + tips
  • site:quora.com “network marketing” + strategies
  • site:quora.com “network marketing” + secrets
  • site:quora.com “network marketing” + success

As you can see, I’m presented with lots of questions that are right up my alley:

network marketing tips quora search

Here are some other topics you could look into. I’ll use “Mary Kay” as an example:

Company:

  • site:quora.com “mary kay”
  • site:quora.com “mary kay” + “products”
  • site:quora.com “mary kay” + “compensation plan”
  • site:quora.com “mary kay” + “your country”

Popular products:

  • site:quora.com “mary kay” + Extra Emollient Night Cream
  • site:quora.com “mary kay” + Intense Moisturizing Cream
  • site:quora.com “mary kay” + Timewise Microdermabrasion Set

Competitors:

  • site:quora.com “Nu Skin”
  • site:quora.com “Rodan + fields”
  • site:quora.com “Jeunesse global”
  • site:quora.com “Arbonne International”

Niche:

  • site:quora.com “beauty”
  • site:quora.com “skin care”
  • site:quora.com “cosmetics”

Specific niche topics:

  • site:quora.com “beauty tips”
  • site:quora.com “skin care advice”
  • site:quora.com “skin care products”

Create a Quora account, spice up your profile, follow your topics and fire away!

Start off with questions in which you have good knowledge about and experience with.

Now:

There are lots of MLM sponsoring opportunities.

In fact:

It didn’t take us long to find questions like this:

  • What should I know before joining [XYZ Company]?
  • How can I choose the right MLM company to join?
  • Which MLM company are you in and why should I join?
  • What’s the best MLM company to join in Australia

Remember the NO selling approach.

You don’t want to be pitching your deal and answering questions just so you can smuggle in your referral link:

Consultant pitching their MLM

Useful content (that’s not salesy) will get the up-votes – which leads to more views, people checking you out and learning more about you.

The goal should be to:

  • Position yourself as a leader
  • Provide value to the market place
  • Improve brand awareness
  • Build an audience

13. The Secret Spy Tool

red alert wallpaper

Surprisingly, this tool and others alike hardly get mentioned in the internet marketing space, let alone the network marketing space.

The secret?

Google Alerts.

It monitors the web for whatever keywords you want and gives you the heads up.

For example:

Let’s say you want to know whenever someone mentions your name or brand online.

So, in my case, I’d set an alert for “Network Marketing Land”:

network marketing land google alerts

I’d also set alerts for variations of my brand name, the URL, and my actual name:

  • Darrel Andrews
  • NetworkMarketingLand
  • networkmarketingland.com
  • www.networkmarketingland.com

Whenever my name or brand gets mentioned on a website, blog post, forum or comment I’ll get an email “alert” letting me know what’s being said and where it is.

Pretty cool, right?

I could then add to the conversation and write a “thanks for the mention” type comment… Maybe even ask them to slip us a link πŸ™‚

But that’s only if I’ve been mentioned in a positive way.

What if it’s something negative?

Then that’s a bummer. πŸ™

But at least I’ll know about it and will have the option to address the situation.

I’ve also set alerts for topics on network marketing:

  • How * network marketing
  • What * network marketing
  • Why * network marketing
  • Will * network marketing
  • Which * network marketing
  • Can * network marketing
  • Are * network marketing

You can set alerts up for your:

  • Company
  • Products
  • Competitors
  • Niche questions

You can get “fresh” discussion opportunities from around the web and can be the “first” to respond.

What Did You Think?

Now I want to hear from you.

Which of these network marketing success tips and strategies are you going to use?

Are you going to set up a Google Business Profile? Or maybe you want to go for a sponsored review?

Let us know by leaving a comment right now!
